WERC stands for the Wales Ethnicity Research Collaboration, a research group comprising a growing number of academics, community development activists and researchers, who are committed to carrying out and supporting high quality health and social science research. Although our focus is on ethnicity and anti-racism, we welcome, and are working to support, research that cuts across the equality strands. We are dedicated to working collaboratively – with community and voluntary organisations, practitioners, policy makers, funders and researchers – to improve practice and to influence policy in ways that impact positively on the lives of minoritised population groups in Wales. WERC:

  • Designs and supports high quality, multi-disciplinary research that addresses identified priorities on a local, regional and national level
  • Identifies, reviews and uses research findings to define practical solutions that will bring about improvement to the lives of minoritised populations and community groups in Wales
  • Provides and promotes a range of support services: resources, information and guidance for professional and public use
  • Offers the means for professionals and the public to exchange and access ideas, opinions, expertise and information though this Gateway.

We run events and publish reports, articles and research bulletins to share the findings of our work, to encourage new collaborations, and to foster interest in this research area.

The success of this Gateway hinges on you
WERC is here not only to support and represent people in Wales; it is also here for people to support and represent themselves. Think of the Gateway as a meeting room: a place where people from all sectors can share ideas, opinions and interests, find the information or resources needed to design high quality research, and deliver lasting change that will have an impact on everyone in Wales.
