What are the lived experiences of minoritised and racialised people in Wales? What are the concerns of particularly vulnerable sections of the BME population in Wales? What is needed to address health and social care inequity in Wales, as linked to wider patterns of structural disadvantage? What roles do the family and social networks play in transmitting health messages across generations? How is the race equality agenda being developed in Wales?

As a multidisciplinary research group working in the field of Ethnicity, Health and Social Science, our research is rooted in addressing the priorities and concerns of minoritised and racialised groups in Wales. Our aim is to undertake research that will produce knowledge that is  practically useful and useable, and that will help improve the lives of BME people, by developing a rigorous research evidence base by shaping practice, and by influencing policy.

What do we do? We develop research designs – qualitative or quantitative – that are appropriate to the question we are seeking to address. We also conduct studies rooted in social policy and development and evaluations of services and service delivery. Of equal importance is research that explores and provides evidence on the lives and experiences of people from minority ethnic backgrounds in Wales. This research is most often developed and designed in collaboration with those affected by a particular issue, with the aim being to provide the research evidence needed to impact positively on emerging policy and practice. The aim is to also use research and scholarly activity in ways that provide tools for people and groups to use to make changes and improvements for themselves.
