Our Commitment

Our commitment to promoting race equality and to tackling racism

Inequality is a pervasive fact of our world, and it is evident that socially ascribed differences such as ‘race’ and ethnicity are strongly implicated in how social inequalities are patterned in Wales. WERC is committed to improving the lives of the BME population in Wales through a programme of health and social research, and the development of a range of research support services. Rooted in the duty to eliminate unlawful discrimination, promote equal opportunities and promote good relations among all ethnic groups, our commitment to promoting equality and to tackling racism runs throughout our work.

Committed to tackling the impact and consequences of racism in its many guises, WERC:

  • promotes understanding of the importance of race equality;
  • encourages good practice in relation to race equality and anti- racism;
  • promotes equality of opportunity; and
  • works towards the elimination of unlawful discrimination and the promotion of race equality in health and social research, and in policy and practice in Wales.
