WEDHS
Designed for Life, Designed for All

The health and social care service in Wales - and the research that underpins it - must recognise the diversity of the Welsh population. Our vision is of a health and social care service in Wales that recognises, and provides for, the physical, social and emotional needs of its' black and minority ethnic (BME) citizens.

Getting access to appropriate treatment, information, support and care is essential for long-term health and well-being. Focusing on equality and diversity, our programme of research and development will provide the understanding, knowledge and evidence required to shape - and create - services that address the health and welfare issues facing BME individuals and groups.

Fulfilled Lives, Supportive Communities

Passionate about increasing the quality and quantity of research through collaboration, WEDHS:

  • Designs and supports multi-disciplinary research for BME people and communities; addressing their needs, concerns and interests
  • Gives BME patients, service users, service providers, agencies and the public a voice by enabling them to be directly involved in research and evelopment activities
  • Identifies, reviews and uses research findings to define practical solutions that will bring about lasting change in all areas: from policy planning and decision-making to implementation and evaluation
  • Provides and promotes a range of support services: resources, information and guidance for professional and public use
  • Creates working partnerships with BME patients, service users, community groups, the public, voluntary and equality workers, service providers and researchers
  • Offers the means for professionals and the public to exchange and access ideas, opinions, expertise and information though this Gateway.

In the long-term, WEDHS aims to build BME research in Wales, delivering high quality research and offering a unique and dedicated consultation, support and information service.
