Designed for Life, Designed for All
WEDHS offers a way to improve the health and wellbeing for black and minority ethnic (BME) people in Wales through an innovative programme of research and development.

WEDHS stands for The Wales Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care Research and Support Service - a group of academics, community development activists and researchers who are committed to carrying out, and supporting, high quality research on key health and social care issues facing BME groups. Funded by the Wales Office of Research and Development in Health and Social Care, we are part of a new research and development structure in Wales: The Clinical Research Collaboration Cymru (CRC Cymru).

Determined to involve the public, as well as professionals, in finding practical solutions to problems, WEDHS promotes understanding about the needs, and empowerment of, BME individuals and groups.
Established in 2005, WEDHS partners and staff are mindful that the current equalities landscape is complex and dynamic.  Although our focus is on ethnicity and anti-racism, our work is developing within the context of the other equality strands. We welcome, and are working to support, cross and multi -strand research collaboration.

Fulfilled Lives, Supportive Communities
The aim of this gateway is to open up new ways of connecting people - linking those who use, or provide, the services to those who research and develop them. WEDHS is not only here to support and represent people in Wales; it is here for people to support and represent themselves.

The success of this Gateway hinges on you!
Think of the Gateway as a meeting room: a place where BME patients; members of the public; service users; researchers; people working in voluntary and equalities organisations, local authorities and social services can share ideas, opinions and interests, and find the information or resources needed to design high quality research, and deliver lasting change, that will have an impact for all in Wales.
