Community Development

We support leading BME voluntary and community organisations and Equalities agencies in Wales, both in conducting scholarly activities, and in developing research ideas into proposals.

The successful launch in 2007 of the Joint Initiative Funding Scheme (JIFS), a small grant scheme established to strengthen the ability of voluntary and community groups to carry out activities that enhance the health and well-being of BME people in Wales, led to twenty-eight grants being awarded to equality agencies and voluntary (and community) organisations throughout Wales, to develop activities and projects aimed at improving the health and social well-being of their constituent members. An evaluation of the recruitment and engagement approaches and models used by these groups will continue to underpin our engagement and outreach work, and to shape our research methodologies and our knowledge exchange activities. Visit our Resources page to access our list of key community and voluntary services in operation throughout Wales.

Our core services and activities include:

  • developing grant applications and research collaborations
  • consultation exercises work to map and explore priorities and concerns in need of attention
  • delivering community-based workshops, seminars and group discussions and cross-sector exchanges and listening exercises;
  • delivering a Research Capacity and Involvement Programme that aims to further enhance our research interactions with community partners, and to help build research capacity among those voluntary organisations that are seeking to address the health and social wellbeing (and welfare) issues facing our target population groups

Please get in contact if you would like to attend one of our events, if you have a research idea you would like to develop, or if you want to learn more about the services we can offer you.
